The Logo was thought to be stylized and you are right: a more realistic approach on the twig would have made it look different. But the focus lies indeed on the typographical composition and to keep it simple yet recognizeable.
As stated above, change the type to a clear sans serif that fits with the cube.
Include a cube without the gradients, a gray version and try a black & white version as well.
The cube is really good though!
