Known for producing high-performance sports cars that are renowned for their speed, style, and power, Lamborghini has a long history of producing some of the most expensive, fastest, and sought-after supercars worldwide.

Its founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, earned attention in the car industry with his unique approach to car development – featuring a rear wheel, rear mid-engine drive layout. Over the years, the brand added new lines and models to its portfolio, which attracted a more comprehensive range of customers.

Today, the Lamborghini logo is one of the world’s most recognizable sports car logos, associated with class, style, and sophistication.

Lamborghini Logo History

Like other successful brands, Lamborghini started from scratch – from its logo design to its performance. In this section, let’s check out the different logo variations of the brand since its foundation.

The Lamborghini logo has changed a couple of times over the years, and if you look at its first-ever logo, you wouldn’t be able to recognize it as the logo of the famous Lamborghini today. Let’s check out this luxury sports car logo over the years:

1953-1963

Did you know that before the Lamborghini brand was established, Ferruccio Lamborghini owned a tractor company called Lamborghini Trattori? Yup! The company’s logo featured a charging bull inspired by Ferruccio’s zodiac sign, Taurus.

However, the first-ever logo didn’t show a charging bull! It features a simple geometric logo with a minimum of elements. The brand’s first logo was a pyramid of three outlined triangles containing F, L, and C – the abbreviation for Ferruccio Lamborghini Cento.

1963-1972

The first official Lamborghini logo was created in 1963 and featured the company’s name in a stylized font. Above the wordmark is a shield logo with another black and white charging bull logo inside. The shield has a red background and an outline of black and white.

1972-1974

In 1972, Lamborghini introduced a simplified version of the previous logo. The wordmark is now inside the shield, and the font is more modern and sophisticated. The charging bull was also made prominent. The bull is now golden from a black and white logo, complementing the shield’s gold and black banner.

While this version might be a better choice than the previous one, this logo version only lasted for two years.

1974-1998

This year, the Lamborghini logo now features a more abstract design. The font was more rounded and flowing, while the emblem was simplified to the charging bull’s black and white silhouette.

A bold sans-serif wordmark accompanies the shield symbol with the Taurus logo inside. This version was changed in 1994 when the American Chrysler company owned the luxury car brand.

In 1994, the famous car returned to its original logo with an elegant yet bold nameplate. The wordmark is inside the shield with the bull in a simple black-and-white design.

1998-Today

The Lamborghini logo had its most recent update in 1998 and now has a sophisticated look. Its font is more elegant and refined, containing sharper angles and a more modern design.

The emblem was also enhanced – the bull was given a more three-dimensional, lifelike appearance and a bright golden yellow color. The bull and the wordmark are now golden sans-serif, which perfectly complements the dark black background.

Lamborghini Logo Design Elements

The Lamborghini logo uses the same color, symbol, font, and emblem throughout its design variations. However, there’s more to them than just simple design elements. Let’s check out the different meanings of the design elements of the Lamborghini logo.

Symbol

The Lamborghini logo depicts an angry bull that looks like it is preparing to attack. As mentioned, the Taurus symbol was inspired by Ferruccio Lamborgini’s zodiac sign – the Taurus. The artist detailed the bulging muscles, sharp horns, and powerful legs of the bull to represent the company car’s performance and appearance.

Emblem

During the whole existence of the brand, the emblem remained unchanged – a shield symbol. If your brand conveys a sense of strength, power, protection, and security, a shield symbol could be appropriate for your logo.

A shield logo is perfect for companies in industries such as sports teams, law firms and if your business deals with security or protection or has a heritage or tradition.

Font

When designing your logo, the font you choose plays a significant role. The brand mostly used a sans-serif font throughout its logo variations. If you want to highlight your wordmark logo with a clean and modern look, use sans-serif fonts as your brand’s typography.

Color

The font used in the Lamborghini logo has undergone several changes from black and white to black and gold logos. According to color psychology, a black logo is a right choice if you want your business to depict sophistication, power, and prestige. The brand’s colors represent energy, speed, and power, instantly recognizable to Lamborghini fans.
