Why Do We Celebrate April Fool’s Day?

April Fool’s day has various origins, from France to Rome to Scotland to the weather. In France, the Julian calendar was changed into the Georgian calendar.

The new year changes from April 1 to January 1. Whoever celebrated New Year on the former were called “April fools” as jokes and often paired with a paper fish (known as a poisson d’avri or April fish) pasted on their backs to symbolize being easily fooled, gullible, and young.

In Rome, April Fool’s Day was called Hilaria, where the cult of Cybele would dress up in disguises and mock the townsfolk and officials, and an Egyptian legend may have inspired the celebration itself.

For Scotland, it was a two days event opening with the hunting the gowk wherein people would send the victims on fake errands. On the second day, people would have a donkey’s tail or “kick me” signs attached to their bums.

Lastly, we have the fact that the Vernal Equinox is Mother Natuer’s way of playing a prank on us since the weather is unpredictable.

Either way, April Fool’s is a great way for your business to incorporate humor and marketing into your brand to strengthen it. Check out the logo designs below for inspiration.
