What is Shopify?
Today’s era is based on online presence, especially when the pandemic hit. Now, you must consider where you’ll sell your goods and services.
You may have a social media platform to create Instagram posts or Facebook posts about your product. But you need a homepage, a website you can link to those posts so you’d have a more organized process of conducting business.
Shopify helps with that. It’s a website builder for businesses that you can edit to the theme of your business. Sometimes, choosing what color combination to use or which typography to pair with your overall design may be overwhelming.
But before it became the household name for online website platforms, it had its humble beginnings as Snowdevil. Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake were the forefathers of the platform we know today.
The three men wanted to sell snowboarding gear online, but there wasn’t a satisfactory service for their e-commerce. Lütke took it upon himself to use his background as a programmer and create a good website builder.
Shopify was then born in 2006. By 2009, they expanded their application programming interface (API) by selling it in different App Stores. The year after, they launched their mobile app, starting with Apple’s App Store.
Now, entrepreneurs everywhere can access their stores on their preferred devices. As of 2022, the calculated businesses hosted by Shopify are 1.7 million.
Today, Shopify itself offers merchants and site owners hundreds of apps that help enhance accessibility, security, and SEO.
Ensure that you stand out amongst those other businesses matters. Start small, focus on your business’s name and logo design, and then start thinking about how you want your website to look.
